Tasha spends 25 minutes reading on Wednesday night. She spends 17 more minutes reading on Thursday than she did on Wednesday. Find how many minutes Tasha spent reading on Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Solution :
Time spent by Tasha on Wednesday = 25 minutes
Time spent by her on Thursday = (25 + 17) min
= 42 min
Total time = (25 + 42) min
= 67 min
So, Tasha spent 67 minutes reading.
Problem 2 :
There are 15 boys and 19 girls in math club. The tables in Mrs. Miller’s classroom seat 4 students each. Find how many tables Mrs. Miller will need.
Mrs. Miller will need _____tables.
Solution :
Number of students in math club = 15 boys + 19 girls
= 34 students
In each table, 4 students can sit.
Total number of tables that 34 students occupy = 34/4
= 8.5
So, number of tables needed is 9.
Problem 3 :
Erik has 2 bags of bird seed. One bag has 10 pounds of seed, and the other bag has 8 pounds of seed. He fills 7 bird feeders with 2 pounds each. Find how many pounds of bird seed are left.

Solution :
Erik has 2 bags of bird seed.
Quantity available in one bag = 10 pounds
Quantity available in another bag = 8 pounds
Available quantity = (10 + 8)
= 18 pounds
He fills 7 bird feeders with 2 pounds
= 7 × 2
= 14 pounds
Left over = 18 – 14
= 4
There are 4 pounds left.
Problem 4 :
Frankie earns $5 each time he babysits his little sister. He has saved $30. Frankie wants to save $52 to buy a new skateboard. Find how many more times Frankie will need to babysit.

Solution :
His earning for baby sitting each time = $5
His savings sofar = $30
Needs to save $52
Required money = 52 - 30 ==> 22
Number of times need to babysit to earn $22
= 22/5
= 4.4
So, he will need to baby sit 5 more time to earn $52.
Problem 5 :
The fourth grade children went for a field trip in 3 buses. There were 38 children on each bus. How many children were there in total?
Solution :
Number of children in each bus = 38
Number of bushes available = 3
Total number of children in all buses = 38 x 3
= 114 students
Problem 6 :
48 boys are participating in a competition. If each group has 4 boys, how many groups are there?

Solution :
Known information :
Total number of boys are participating in the competition = 48
We want to know :
Number of boys in each group.
Total number of groups = 48/4
= 12 groups
Problem 7 :
There are 9 mugs. On each mug, students paint 7 flowers and 5 trees. How many flowers are painted in all?
Solution :
Number of mugs available = 9
Number of flowers can be painted with each mug = 7
Total number of flowers painted = 9 x 7
= 63 flowers.
Problem 8 :
Dawn made 4 vests. On each vest she sewed 10 buttons and 12 stars. How many buttons did she sew?
Solution :
Number of wests made by Dawn = 4
Number of buttons she sewed = 10
Total number of button she sew = 4 x 10
= 40 buttons
