Area and perimeter of rectangle :

To find perimeter of rectangle, we use the formula 

Perimeter = 2(length + width)

To find area of rectangle, we use the formula

Area = length x width

Hugh orders a party banner for his son’s birthday. The length and width of the banner are 72 inches and 23 inches respectively. What is the area of the party banner?

Solution :

length = 72 inches

Width = 23 inches

Area of rectangle = length × width

= 72 × 23

= 1656 square inches

Problem 2 :

Theo makes a decorative bookmark of size 2” × 6” for his teacher. Find the area of the bookmark.

Solution :

Length = 6 inches

Width = 2 inches

Fran designed a flag that measured 9 inches in length and 5 inches in width. Find the area of the flag.

Solution :

Solution :

Solution :

Solution :

length = 8 inches and Width = 3.5 inches

Area of the photo frame = length × width

= 8 × 3.5

= 28 square inches

We know,

28 square inches = 0.00694 × 28 square feet

= 0.19 square feet

So, area of the photo frame is 0.19 square feet.

Problem 7 :

Mr. O’Grady bought wallpaper to decorate one of his bedroom walls, 11 feet wide and 15 feet long. Find the area of the wall paper. Express the answer in square inches.

Solution :

Given, length = 15 feet

Width = 11 feet

Area of wallpaper = length × width

= 15 × 11

= 165 square feet

We know,

1 square feet = 144 square inches

165 square feet = 144 × 165 square inches

= 23760 square inches

So, area of the wall paper is 23760 square inches.
