MULTIPLYING DECIMALS BY 10 100 AND 1000 WORKSHEET

When we multiply decimals by 10n, we have to move the decimal towards the right after n digits.

Consider the example,

0.23 x 1000

Here we have 3 zeroes, so should move the decimal 3 digits towards the right. So, the answer is

0.23 x 1000 = 230

Note :

In the problem above, we can move the decimal only for two digits. For the remaining number of digits, we put 0.

Find :

Problem 1 :

4.3 × 10

Solution :

4.3 × 10 = 43

Since we have only one zero in 10, we have to move the decimal one digit towards the right. So, the answer is 43.

Problem 2 :

8.5 × 1000

Solution :

8.5 × 1000 = 8500

We should move the decimal three digits towards the right, since we see only one digit after the decimal, we put 0 for the remaining number of digits.

Problem 3 :

5 × 106

Solution :

106 = 1000000

5 × 1000000 = 5000000

Problem 4 :

0.6 × 10

Solution :

0.6 × 10

Since it has one zero, we have to move the decimal point to the right of one digit.

0.6 × 10 = 6

Problem 5 :

4.6 × 10

Solution :

4.6 × 10

Since it has one zero, we have to move the decimal point to the right of one digit.

4.6 × 10 = 46

Problem 6 :

0.58 × 100

Solution :

0.58 × 100

Since it has two zeroes, we have to move the decimal point to the right of two digit.

0.58 × 100 = 58

Problem 7 :

3.09 × 100

Solution :

3.09 × 100

Since it has two zeroes, we have to move the decimal point to the right of two digit.

3.09 × 100 = 309

Problem 8 :

2.5 × 100

Solution :

2.5 × 100

Since it has two zeroes, we have to move the decimal point to the right of two digit.

2.5 × 100 = 250

Problem 9 :

0.8 × 100

Solution :

0.8 × 100

Since it has two zeroes, we have to move the decimal point to the right of two digit.

0.8 × 100 = 80

Problem 10 :

3.24 × 100

Solution :

3.24 × 100

Since it has two zeroes, we have to move the decimal point to the right of two digit.

3.24 × 100 = 324

Problem 11 :

0.9 × 1000

Solution :

0.9 × 1000

Since it has three zeroes, we have to move the decimal point to the right of three digit.

0.9 × 1000 = 900

Problem 12 :

0.845 × 1000

Solution :

0.845 × 1000

Since it has three zeroes, we have to move the decimal point to the right of three digit.

0.845 × 1000 = 845

Problems on Finding Multipliers :

Write the multiplier to complete the equation :

Problem 1 :

5.3 × x = 530

Solution :

5.3 × x = 530

Considering the answer, the decimal is moved 2 digits to the right. So, the required multiplier is 100.

5.3 × 100 = 530

Problem 2 :

0.89 × x = 890

Solution :

0.89 × x = 890

Considering the answer, the decimal is moved 3 digits to the right. So, the required multiplier is 1000.

0.89 × 1000 = 890

Problem 3 :

0.04 × x = 400

Solution :

0.04 × x = 400

Considering the answer, the decimal is moved 4 digits to the right. So, the required multiplier is 10000.

0.04 × 10000 = 400

Problem 4 :

38.094 × x = 3809.4

Solution :

38.094 × x = 3809.4

Considering the answer, the decimal is moved 2 digits to the left. So, the required multiplier is 100.

38.094 × 100 = 3809.4

Problem 5 :

70.4 × x = 704

Solution :

70.4 × x = 704

Considering the answer, the decimal is moved 1 digits to the right. So, the required multiplier is 10.

70.4 × 10 = 704

Problem 6 :

38.69 × x = 386.9

Solution :

38.69 × x = 386.9
