MULTIPLYING AND DIVIDING NEGATIVE NUMBERS

Multiplying Negative Numbers

+ x + = +

- x - = +

+ x - = -

- x + = -

  • When multiplying the same signs, we will get positive value as result.
  • When multiplying the different signs, we will get negative value as result.

Dividing Negative Numbers

To divide two number with same signs or different signs, we have to follow the rules given below.

If two numbers are having same signs, may be positive or negative. The answer should have positive sign.

If two numbers are having different signs, may be positive negative or negative positive. The answer should have negative sign.

 ÷ - = -

-  ÷ + = -

 ÷ + = +

-  ÷ - = +

Complete each sentence with either positive or negative.
