MULTIPLYING AND DIVIDING BY 01 001 AND 0001

Here we see how to multiply decimals by 0.1, 0.01, 0.001,...etc

Instead of converting the given decimal as a fraction which consists of the denominator 10, 100, 1000, .... etc, we can follow the tricks given below.

  • Multiplying by 0.1 and dividing the decimal by 10 both will give the same result.
  • Multiplying by 0.01 and dividing the decimal by 100 both will give the same result.

Problem 1 :

0.09 × 0.1

Solution :

Multiplying the decimal by 0.1 and dividing the same decimal by 10. Both will give the same result.

0.09 × 0.1= 0.0910

Since we divide by 10, moving the decimal one digit backward.

= 0.009

Problem 2 :

19.6 × 0.1

Solution :

Multiply the decimal by 0.1 and divide the same decimal by 10.

Both will give the same result.

19.6 × 0.1= 19.610

Since we divide by 10, moving the decimal one digit forward.

= 1.96

Problem 3 :

73.7 × 0.1

Solution :

Multiply the decimal by 0.1 and divide the same decimal by 10.

Both will give the same result.

73.7 × 0.1= 73.710

Since we divide by 10, moving the decimal one digit forward.

= 7.37

Problem 4 :

0.66 × 0.001

Solution :

Multiply the decimal by 0.001 and divide the same decimal by 1000.

Both will give the same result.

0.66 × 0.001= 0.661000

Since we divide by 1000, moving the decimal three digit forward.

= 0.00066

Problem 5 :

0.002 × 0.1

Solution :

Multiply the decimal by 0.1 and divide the same decimal by 10.

Both will give the same result.

0.002 × 0.1= 0.00210

Since we divide by 10, moving the decimal one digit backward.

= 0.0002

Problem 6 :

8.42 × 0.001

Solution :

Multiply the decimal by 0.001 and divide the same decimal by 1000.

Both will give the same result.

8.42 × 0.001= 8.421000

Since we divide by 1000, moving the decimal three digit forward.

= 0.00842

Problem 7 :

0.7 × 0.001

Solution :

Multiply the decimal by 0.001 and divide the same decimal by 1000.

Both will give the same result.

0.7 × 0.001= 0.71000

Since we divide by 1000, moving the decimal three digit forward.

= 0.0007

Problem 8 :

0.35 × 0.001

Solution :

Multiply the decimal by 0.001 and divide the same decimal by 1000.

Both will give the same result.

0.35 × 0.001= 0.351000

Since we divide by 1000, moving the decimal three digit forward.

= 0.00035

Problem 9 :

0.6 × 0.01

Solution :

Multiply the decimal by 0.01 and divide the same decimal by 100.

Both will give the same result.

0.6 × 0.01= 0.6100

Since we divide by 100, moving the decimal two digit forward.

= 0.006

Problem 10 :

8.11 × 0.01

Solution :

Multiply the decimal by 0.01 and divide the same decimal by 100.

Both will give the same result.

8.11 × 0.01= 8.11100

Since we divide by 100, moving the decimal ome digit forward.

= 0.0811

Problem 11 :

0.471 × 0.001

Solution :

Multiply the decimal by 0.001 and divide the same decimal by 1000.

Both will give the same result.

0.471 × 0.001= 0.4711000

Since we divide by 1000, moving the decimal three digit forward.

= 0.000471

Problem 12 :

5.119 × 0.1

Solution :

Multiply the decimal by 0.1 and divide the same decimal by 10.

Both will give the same result.

5.119 × 0.1= 5.11910

Since we divide by 10, moving the decimal one digit backward.

= 0.5119
