MULTIPLICATION OF DECIMAL WORD PROBLEMS

Find the cost of 72 books at $5.75 each.

Solution :

The cost of each book is $5.75

The cost of 72 book = 72 × 5.75

= $414

Problem 2 :

Find the cost of 8.6 m of plastic sheeting at $4.62 per meter.

Solution :

The cost of plastic sheet = $4.62 per meter

The cost of 8.6 m = 8.6 × 4.62

= 39.732 m

Problem 3 :

In order to bake cakes for the school fair, I buy 180 kg of flour at $0.84 per kg and 25 kg of sugar at $1.17 per kg. How much money have I spent ?

Solution :

Cost of 1 kg flour = $0.84

Quantity of flour i buy = 180 kg

= 180 × 0.84

= 151.2

Quantity of sugar = 25 kg

Cost per kg = 1.17

= 25 × 1.17

= 29.25

I spent the money = 151.2 + 29.25

= $180.45

So, i spent the money is $180.45.

Problem 4 :

I load 450 bags of salt onto my lorry, each having mass 0.15 kg. Find the total mass of all bags.

Solution :

I load 450 bags of salt onto my lorry.

Each having mass = 0.15 kg

The total mass of all bags = 450 × 0.15

= 67.5

So, the total mass of all bags is 67.5.

Problem 5 :

House bricks have a mass of 4.3 kg each and I buy 2500 of them to build a wall around my courtyard.

a. Find the total mass of the bricks.

b. If my truck can carry only 2 tonnes at a time, how many truck loads are necessary to transport the bricks ?

Solution :

Mass of house bricks = 4.3 kg

I buy 2500 of them to build a wall around my courtyard.

a. The total mass of the bricks = 4.3 × 2500

= 10750 kg

So, total mass of the bricks is 10750 kg.

b. If my truck can carry only 2 tones at a time.

Total mass of the bricks is 10750 kg

2 tones = 2000 kg

= 2000 × 10750

= 21500000

21500000 truck loads are necessary to transport the bricks.
