GRADE 5 MATH PRACTICE TEST

Problem 1 :

75 people travel in a bus, 15 were left standing, what percent of the people were seated.

Solution :

Total number of people = 75

People standing = 15

People seated = 75 - 15

= 60

Percentage of people seated = 60/75 ×100

= 80%

Problem 2 :

Find the required :

a) P = $6000 I = $900 T = 7 years R = ?

b) P = $3200 I = $160 R = 2% p.a. T = ?

Solution :

a) Borrowed amount = Rs. 6000

Time = 7 years

Interest = 900

S.I = (P × R × T)/100

Where, S.I = Simple Interest

P = Principal

T = Time

R = S.I × 100P × TR = 900 × 1006000 × 7= 3014R = 2.14 % p.a

b) Borrowed amount = Rs. 3200

Time = ?

Interest = 160

Rate = 2%

S.I = (P × R × T)/100

Where, S.I = Simple Interest

P = Principal

T = Time

R = S.I × 100P × T2 = 160 × 1003200 × TT = 160 × 1003200 × 2T =16000 6400T = 52

Problem 3 :

Rajive bought pencils for $150, As the were of bad quality, he had to sell them for $127, Find his loss or gain ?

Solution :

Cost price of pencils that Rajive bought = $150

Selling price = 127

Since the selling price is higher, it can be considered as loss.

Loss amount = Cost price - selling price

= 150 - 127

Loss = 23

Problem 4 :

John covered a distance of 42 km in 3 hrs and a further distance of 44km in 4hrs. Find his average speed.

Solution :

Since we have given that,

Distance = 42 km

Further distance = 44 km

Total distance = 42 + 44

= 86 km

Time taken = 3 hours and 4 hours.

So, Total time taken = 3 + 4

= 7  hours

So, Average speed would be

Speed = DistanceTime = 867Speed = 12.29 km/hr

So, average speed is 12.29 km/hr.

Problem 5 :

Write four Differences between line and line segment.

Solution :

Line

1. The length of the line cannot be measured.

2. Lines do not have a starting point or an endpoint.

3. A line extends in both directions.

4. Lines are long and continuous.

Line segment

1. The length of the line segment can be measured.

2. Line segments do have a starting point and an endpoint.

3. A line segment does not extend in both directions.

4. Line segments are short and basically a section of the line.

Problem 6 :

Ram bought a second hand cycle for $500. He spent $80 in repair and $175 in repainting. He then sold it to Lalith for $900. How much did he gain or lose ?

Solution :

Ram bought a second hand cycle = $500

He spent the money in repair = $80

He spent the money in repainting = $175

Selling price = $900

Cost price = 500 + 80 + 175

= 755

Profit = Selling price - Cost price

= 900 - 755

= 145

Therefore, Ram gain Rs.145.

Problem 7 :

The following are the scores of Raghav, Vidhush and Subhash in a certain year :

5th-grade-math-q7

a) Whose average is best ?

Solution :

a) Average score of Raghav :

Total score = 146 + 206 + 80

= 432/3

Average = 144

Average score of Vidhush :

Total score = 102 + 149 + 58

= 309/3

Average = 103

Average score of Subhash :

Total score = 188 + 285 + 35

= 508/3

Average = 169.3

Subhash average is best.

Problem 8 :

The sum of two numbers is 6,73,579,845 if one of them is 4,9 2,798,546 find the other one.

Solution :

Sum of two numbers = 67, 35, 79, 845

Given numbers = 49, 27, 98, 546

Other numbers = ?

Other numbers = Sum of two numbers - Given numbers

= 6,73,579,845 - 4,92,798,546

= 1, 80, 781, 299

So, other numbers is 1, 80, 781, 299.

Problem 9 :

Shwetha travelled 2.07 km by foot, 12.1 km by bus and the rest by scooty. If she travelled a distance of 29.05 km. Find the distance she covered by scooty.

Solution :

Shwetha travelled the distance by foot = 2.07 km

She is travelled the distance by bus = 12.1.km.

Let she is travelled the distance by scooty = x.km

She travelled a total distance = 29.05 km

Total distance = Distance by foot + Distance by bus + Distance by scooty

29.05  = 2.07  + 12.1 + x

29.05 = 14.17  + x

x = 29.05 - 14.17

x = 14.88

So, the distance she is covered by scooty is 14.88 km.

Problem 10 :

Pramod needs 1.30 m of cloths for a shirt and 2.75 m for a safari suit. His uncle gifted a piece of cloth. But the cloth fell short by 0.85 m. What was the length of cloth gifted by his uncle ?

Solution :

Shirt = 1.30 m

Safari suit = 2.75 m

Measurement of clothes needed for shirt and safari suit

= 1.30 m + 2.75 m

= 4.05 m

Cloth fell short = 0.85 m

Total length = 4.05 m - 0.85 m

= 3.2 m

So, length of the cloth is 3.2 m.
