3) If a 10-foot piece of electrical tape has five pieces that are each 1.25 feet cut from it, what is the new length of the tape?

Solution :

Length of the electric tap before it cut = 10 foot

Number of pieces to be cut = 5

Length of each piece = 1.25 feet

New length of the tape = 10 - 5(1.25)

= 10 - 6.25

= 3.75

So, the new length of tape = 3.75

Problem 4 :

The mass of a jar of sugar is 1.9 kg. What is the total mass of 13 jars of sugar?

Solution :

Mass of one jar = 1.9 kg

Mass of all 13 jars = 13 (1.9)

Multiplying 13 and 19, we get

13 x 19 = 247

13 x 1.9 = 24.7

So, the mass in all 13 jars is 24.7 kg

Problem 6 :

Carpeting costs $9.99 a yard. If Jan buys 17.4 yards, how much will it cost her? (Round your answer to the nearest hundredth)

Solution :

Cost of carpeting = $9.99

Quantity of carpet he is purchasing = 17.4 yards

Total cost spent = 9.99 x 17.4

Multiplying 999 and 174, we get

9.99 x 17.4 = 173.826

So, the required cost is $173.83.

Problem 7 :

Amount spent = 637.98

Remaining amount = 1050 - 637.98

Amount left over is $412.02.
