CHECK WHETHER THE GIVEN IS FUNCTION OR NOT

Problem 1 :

Check whether the relation is function or not

{(6, 2), (-1, 2), (-3, 2), (-5, 2)}

Find i) Domain and ii) Range

Solution :

Create a mapping for the given relation.

funornot

Every input is having output, no inputs is having more than one output. So, it is a function.

Domain = {-5, -3, -1, 6}

Range = {2}

Problem 2 :

Check whether the relation is function or not

funornot1

Find i) Domain and ii) Range

Solution :

Every input is having output, no inputs is having more than one output. So, it is a function.

Domain = {-5, 5, 10, 15}

Range = {6, 16, 26, 36}

Problem 3 :

Check whether the relation is function or not

x

3

5

7

y

1

15

30

Find i) Domain and ii) Range

Solution :

Every input is having output, no inputs is having more than one output. So, it is a function.

Domain = {3, 5, 7}

Range = {1, 15, 30}

Problem 4 :

Check whether the relation is function or not

checkwhetheritisfunctionq4

Solution :

By observing the figure given above, it is not a function because the input -1 is associated with two outputs -2 and -3. So, it is not a function.

State the domain and range of each relation. Then determine whether each relation is a function

Problem 5 :

Solution :

No input is having more than one output. So, it is a function.

Problem 6 :

checkwhetheritisfunctionq6.png

Solution :

3 is the element is having more than one output. So, it is not a function.

Problem 7 :

checkwhetheritisfunctionq7.png

Solution :

Every input is having one output, so it is a function.

Problem 8 :

checkwhetheritisfunctionq8.png

Solution :

From the graph, if we want to check whether it is a function, we have to draw the vertical line test.

If the vertical line intersects the graph at most one point, we can say it is a function.

The vertical line drawn for the above curve will intersect the graph at 2 points. It is not a function.

Problem 9 :

State the domain and range of each relation. Then determine whether each relation is a function

checkwhetheritisfunctionq9.png

Solution :

Domain = {2, 8}

Range = {21, 25, 30}

2 is the input having two outputs. So, it is not a function.

Problem 10 :

Graph each relation or equation and determine the domain and range.

x = -1

Solution :

Graph of x = -1 will be a vertical line.

for one input -1, we have different outputs. So, it is not a function.
