Solution :

y = 1.5x

x = 9, y = 1.5(9) ==> 13.5

x = 11, y = 1.5(11) ==> 16.5

x = 13, y = 1.5(13) ==> 19.5

x = 15, y = 1.5(15) ==> 22.5

So, option A is correct.

Problem 22 :

A temperature in degrees Fahrenheit is shown in expanded notation.

(9 × 10) + (4 × 0.1)

How is this temperature in degrees Fahrenheit written as a numeral?

Solution :

= (9 × 10) + (4 × 0.1)

= 90 + 0.4

= 99.4

Problem 23 :

Mark has $5.25 in quarters. He spent all this money on 3 sports drinks. He spent the same amount for each sports drink.

staar-grade5-q23.png

Which equation can be used to find the amount of money Mark spent for each sports drink?

A)  5.25 × 3 = 15.75     B) 5.25 ÷ 7 = 0.75

C) 5.25 ÷ 3 = 1.75        D) 5.25 × 7 = 36.75

Solution :

Total value = 5.25

Number of parts = 3

Value of each part = 5.25/3

= 1.75

5.25 / 3 = 1.75

So, option C is correct.

Problem 24 :

The length of one wall in Mr. Shelby’s classroom is 29 feet. What is the length of this wall in inches?

A)  348 in     B)  242 in       C) 338 in      D)  248 in

Solution :

1 ft = 12 inches

29 ft = 29(12)

= 348 inches

So, option A is correct.

Problem 25 :

An electronic book has a file size 2.4 megabytes. What is the file size in megabytes of 16 of these electronic books ?

A)  32.4megabytes        B)   54.4megabytes

C)  32.64megabytes      D)  38.4megabytes

Solution :

Size of electronic book = 2.4 megabytes

Size of 16 electronic book = 16(2.4)

= 38.4 megabytes

Problem 26 :

This Venn diagram is being used to classify two types of quadrilaterals.

staar-grade5-q26.png

Which type of figure will always belong in the shaded section of this Venn diagram?

A)  Rectangle    B)  Rhombus     C)  Square    D)  Trapezoid

Solution :

The answer is square, option C.

Problem 27 :

A chef used 1/4 cup of milk for one recipe. Then she used 2 cups of milk for each of 5 more recipes. The total number of cups of milk the chef used can be found by using this expression.

14

Solution :

= 1/4 + (2 x 5)

= 1/4 + 10

= (1 + 40)/4

= 41/4

= 10   1/4 cup

So, option A is correct,

Problem 28 :

A hexagon and its side lengths are shown.

staar-grade5-q29.png

What is the perimeter of the hexagon in feet?

Solution :

Number of side hexagon has = 6

Perimeter of the hexagon = 2(4.5) + 4(2.8)

= 9 + 11.2

= 20.2 ft

Problem 29 :

There are 16 pies on a picnic table.

• Each pie is cut into pieces.

• Each piece is of a pie.

How many pieces of pie are on the picnic table?

A)  2     B)  88     C)  24     D)  128

Solution :

Each piece is in the shape of pie and there is no left over.

Option A:

2 is not divisible by 16.

Option B :

88 is not divisible by 16

Option C :

24 is not divisible by 16

Option D :

128 is divisible by 16.

So, option D is the correct answer.

Problem 30 :

Elias has three containers of cooking oil. The table shows the volume of cooking oil in each container.

staar-grade5-q30.png

Which list shows the containers in order from least to greatest volume in liters?

A)  Container X, Container Y, Container Z

B)  Container Y, Container X, Container Z

C)  Container Z, Container Y, Container X

D)  Container Z, Container X, Container Y

Solution :

0.946, 0.502, 1.42

Arranging from least to greatest :

0.502, 0.946, 1.42

Container Y, Container X, Container Z, option B is correct.
